The Unalaska Raiders made their presence known in the first Alaska Association of Basketball Coaches poll last week. The Raiders, who are off to a 9-0 start to the season, were ranked among the top teams in the state, according to the state's coaches.

The Raiders, who are coming off a strong outing in the championship game of the Ravn Invitational tournament in Bethel, ranked as the No. 1 team in the Class 1A poll. Unalaska is ranked just ahead of Unalakleet, which soared to the Husky Shootout title this past weekend in Kotzebue.

The Barrow girls ranked third in the girls' 3A poll. Anchorage Christian and Sitka finished first and second, respectively.

Unalaska wasn't the only area team receiving high praise from pollsters. Newhalen boys ranked fifth in Class 1A polls.

The Class 2A and Class 1A polls for girls' teams was not released last week.
