Bristol Bay youth showed off their knowledge of several different books during the annual Battle of the Books competition.

The statewide battles included participants from all across Alaska, who competed via teleconference.

In the Middle School competition, held March 1, the team from Aleutians East Borough took 10th place, the top spot for a team in this region. Igiugig's middle school team tied for 18th with a team from the Yukon Koyukuk School District, while Unalaska took 25th place.

Igiugig's fifth and sixth grade team took 13th place, tied with a team from the Kuspuk School District. Bristol Bay Borough students tied for 16th, and a Dillingham team took 25th. Unalaska's team followed them in a tie for 26th, and Akutan placed 28th. That battle was held March 2.

In the youngest bracket, Dillingham's third and fourth grade team tied for 16th place on March 3, while their counterparts from Iliamna and Newhaven took 21st.
