Delayed but not derailed, the Bristol Bay boys basketball team worked overtime en route to winning the Lumen Christi Invitational last weekend in Anchorage.

The Angels arrived late after being held up by the avalanche on the Seward Highway, forcing them to make up for lost time by playing two games on Saturday.

After dispatching Nanwalek 61-45 in the morning, they knocked off tournament host Lumen Christi 52-43 a few hours later to cap a 4-0 showing and clinch the title.

Zach Peter was the man, combining for 30 points in the two victories and earning a place on the all-tournament team.

Other studs included Brandon Rush, Jaxon Wassillie and Luke Wilson, all double-figure scorers.

In the title tilt against Lumen Christi, Bristol Bay built a 38-21 cushion after three quarters before holding on down the stretch. Peter pumped in 14 points and Rush and Wassillie each bagged a dozen.

Earlier in the day, Wilson collected 18, Peter scored 16 and Wassillie added 13 against Nanwalek.

Bristol Bay also beat Whittier (46-28) and Nikolaevsk (48-46).

On the girls side, the Lady Angels placed second in the Lumen Christi Invitational with a 2-1 record.

Bristol Bay players Brianna Cook and Anna Chukwak were selected to the all-tournament team.

The Lady Angels ended the tournament with a 40-16 victory over Nikolaevsk on Saturday. Chukwak's 10 points paced nine players in the scoring column.
