RESOLUTION 09-17

REQUESTING THE ALASKA DEPARTMENT OF COMMERCE, COMMUNITY AND ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT TO FUND COMMUNITY HALLS AND PUBLIC SAFETY BUILDINGS IN ALASKA NATIVE VILLAGES

WHEREAS: Many Alaska Native communities in the State of Alaska have identified a need for replacement of their existing Community Hall and Public Safety Buildings; and

WHEREAS: The State of Alaska, Department of Community and Regional Affairs, has funding available for Community Development Block Grants, but currently the state does not allow these funds to be used to fund Community Halls and Public Safety Buildings; and

NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the delegates to the 2009 Annual Convention of the Alaska Federation of Natives requests the State of Alaska allow Community Development Block Grants to also be used for replacement of existing Community Hall and Public Safety Buildings throughout all Alaska Native villages.
